Ring modulation sidechaining is a technique that allows for sample-accurate ducking of one signal to another. For example: If you wanted to combine the red and the blue signals, this would result in the following purple signal, which clips above +/- 1! However, with ring modulation sidechaining, you can transform the red curve in the the following blue curve, and use that to control the gain of the original blue signal to get the following black signal. When you combine the red signal with this sidechained black signal, the result never goes above +/-1. The resulting sound is slightly crunchy in a very pleasing way, and adds a warm sound without adding any harmonics to the original red signal.
